Another Proxy question

Using the proxy we have to use on our network (Windows unfortunately),
Thunderbird, or any other email program outside of Outlook for that matter,
does not work. Is it possible to setup the receiving and send mail servers
somehow to allow it to get through the proxy server part 80?
