Not having a problem here with a Canon A530 and FC6 x86_64 using gthumb. I just tried "gphoto2 --auto-detect" and it also finds the camera. All I see in /var/log/messages is:

Jan 13 10:52:05 fubar kernel: usb 3-1: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 3
Jan 13 10:52:05 fubar kernel: usb 3-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice

It appears that the portmap service is having some problems though. It is needed for automount. I just check on the box I use for accessing my camera and it appears that portmap is dying. It could be that gthumb is finding the camera and leaving the connection on my box so that gphoto2 finds the camera and doesn't have to detect it.

I'll see if I can figure out why portmap is dying. You might try enabling the port map service and trying again. I'm not seeing the port mapping timeout messages even with portmap dead.

Cheers,
Dave
