Kate's terminal emulator freezes up

As a follow up:

The terminal does not freeze when using the "linux konsole" keyboard type.

put the terminal on the left side *and*, left-click on
the terminal and in Settings->Keyboard select "linux konsole". With this the
terminal never freezes up.
