There is something wrong with the pulseaudio update

When presing "/" the volume should lower using
mplayer, and "*" the volume increases. Nothing
happens.  running alsamixer shows only pulseaudio\

instead of what was originally there.  When playing a
song, the song starts fine, then freezes and stops
playing.
