Will,
A hub is like an old fashion 'party' telephone line. Each computer attached to
the hub must share a limited pool of bandwidth with all of the other
computers attached. This means only one computer can talk at a time which
will definitely increase the latency of your connections. I suspect, if you
have a 100Mbps hub and only a very few clients you will 'get away with' this
shared bandwidth. But expect the hub to limit your clients performance fairly
quickly as you add clients.
