If you can boot it into text (command line) mode, try running the 
command "lspci". It should list all of the hardware on your PCI/AGP/USB 
busses. You can usually find out the type of chipset on your video card 
by looking at the output. TIp: use "lspci | less" (the middle character 
is the pipe, it's the shift+\) so you can use the arrow keys to page up 
and down though the output instead of having it all flash by at once.
