[K12OSN] Sound issue with Gnome

When a terminal is launched, aren't the various bash rc and profile scripts run, e.g. 
/etc/bash_profile, ~/.bashrc, ~/.bash_profile?  If I'm correct, look in those scripts to 
see if anything relevant is being set that would make the apps work when called from a 
terminal.
