Nightly repo does not mean its "random". We will be eventually promoting
it as stable, we would like to be able to refer builds rather with version
numbers then git hashes. Having tags in the repo has big advantage - you
can fix/hotfix any build you want. With your approach its much more work
to fix nightly/stable, particularly where some other commits have been
pushed on top of the released code base.
Until you give me more reasons WHY to do it using git hashes, dates or
whatever, I am sticking with the current approach ;-)
