If you can get 4.1.1 or 4.2.x Android then you can find Kannada is 
already supported. See http://www.android.com/about/jelly-bean/

The above link you are referring to is related to ICS (4.0.4) source 
code. If you have ICS source code then whatever steps given in that link 
is still valid. But as that time rendering engine does not support 
Kannada language, you will not get conjuncts getting rendered correctly. 
Better try latest version or at least 4.1.1 for correct rendering.

In 4.0.4 version, fully supported Indic languages are Bengali, Tamil and 
Hindi.
