CL configuring IPs that stick around on reboot

I need to configure some new IP Aliases and would like to do it via
command line. I can use ifconfig to do it for the current boot, but if I
reboot they are lost. Is there a command line method for setting an IP
alias that will remain during reboot (eg setting all the files in
/etc/sysconfig/networking/devices etc?

Thanks,
Roger
