Hi everybody:
I am a novice in Linux. I successfully installed red
hat linux 7.3 (still an old version, since it was
given to me for free) but I failed to installed a dail
up connection to my ISP using a 56K modem from Best
Data. I typed in the command as follows:
[root at localhost root]# wvdailconf create
Scanning your serial port for a modem
ttys0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 -- OK
...
...
Port Scan<*1> SR283 SR284 SR285 SR286 SR287
Found a modem on /dev/ttyS0.
ttyS0<Info>: Speed 115200; init "ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1
&D2 S11=55 +FCLASS=0"
[root at localhost root]#
I tried to search for the file /etc/wvdial.conf which
was supposed to be created by the command, and found
out that it didn't even exist at all! Next, I tried
out the procedures recommended by a book using the
Dialup Configuration window under GNOME, by choosing
Program->System->Internet Configuration Wizard from
the GNOME menu. A new "Add new Device Type" window
appeared, and I chose Modem Connection, before
clicking on the Next button. After a while, it came
back telling me that "no modem wad detected".
It was confusing: First, the system replied informing
me that it found a modem on /dev/ttyS0 after I typed
in the command "wvdailconf create"; Second, the system
came back and told me that "no modem was detected"!
I could not figure out what went wrong. Could anyone
out there be kind enough to give me a hand? Your help
would be deeply appreiciated. Thank you in advance for
your help.
Regards,
Kow9loon
