If the kernel serial console works with one BIOS and does not work with
another, then most probably you have the different serial port settings
such as speed and parity in those BIOSes. You can change the kernel
serial port settings to match the settings in the Phoenix BIOS, as Rick
suggested. However, I think that it will be better to change the
settings in Phoenix BIOS to match the settings the kernel expect (most
probably, the settings in the non-Phoenix BIOS match the kernel expected
settings), so you will not need to change kernel settings when move hard
disk from one computer to another. By default the kernel will expect
serial port working in the mode 9600n8.
