Karl,

Thank you very much for the reply. The non-Phoenix
BIOS have BIOS setting to redirect the console and we
have tried both to turn on and off the feature in
Phoenix BIOS. Unfortunately, that does seen to help
at all.

Thanks.

Try modifing the grub.conf file and at the end of the kernel line append
with the following information:

console=ttyS0 console=tty0

This should help you as long as your console are at 0

Albert, we prefer bottom-posting on this list.

Don't forget to give the serial port settings you want as well,

	console=ttyS0,9600n8 console=tty0

The serial port stuff is "portname,BBBBPN", where "BBBB" is the
baud rate, P is the parity (e, o, n) and N is the number of bits
to use. "9600n8" is 9600 baud, 8 data bits, no parity (and is the
default). "115200e7" is 115,200 baud, 7 data bits, even parity.

Thanks Albert and Rick. I have already tried those
entries setup in grub.conf and still no luck. Any
other ideas?

Thanks.

Well, I replied to _you_ below your posting. I retained the rest for
historical reasons, although I didn't do the pruning I normally do and
for that I appologize. I have a queue of people asking me for things
since I've been in one of our other offices for two days and I'm a bit,
uhm, harried, shall we say? :-p

If the kernel serial console works with one BIOS and does not work with
another, then most probably you have the different serial port settings
such as speed and parity in those BIOSes. You can change the kernel
serial port settings to match the settings in the Phoenix BIOS, as Rick
suggested. However, I think that it will be better to change the
settings in Phoenix BIOS to match the settings the kernel expect (most
probably, the settings in the non-Phoenix BIOS match the kernel expected
settings), so you will not need to change kernel settings when move hard
disk from one computer to another. By default the kernel will expect
serial port working in the mode 9600n8.
