Gateway problem

Strange. What route do you have before adding manualy the default one? 
In your first post you spoke about ath0 device? Is networking set to yes 
in network?

This is my network file (FC3):

NETWORKING=yes
HOSTNAME=hostname.domain
GATEWAY=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

Also, route add default gw 192.168.1.1 is enough, no need to add the device.
