Hi

Check if firewall is enabled in your linux machine .

If yes u have to allow Certain Ports like 135,444 for SMB connection to work .

Try stopping the firewall and check .

# service iptables stop

Regards
Karthik

I've got more than one printer, HP, laser, builtin JetDirect. When I go
there in a browser, I see the basic thing, but I can't get to the
networking page. It says that it wants a password, no user name. It
doesn't accept anything. Last week, a co-worker reset one to factory
defaults... and it comes up with the same thing. Looking around on the
Web, I don't see anything about a default password.

Clues for the poor?

Can you telnet to the JetDirect?

According to the following:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=bpj05999

when the system is reset to defaults you should be able to telnet in and use one of the following usernames:
root, admin, administrator, or supervisor and get in without a password.

Other docs have mentioned "admin" as the default password after a reset...

Some more interesting things to try:

Good Luck!

Hi,

I can't make this simple samba sharing to work. I have system auth via ldap. but i want to have a share a folder to everyone. so i have this smb.conf:

[global]
workgroup = myworkgroup
security = share
guest account = nobody
netbios name = fileshare

[data]
comment = fileshare
path = /share
browseable = yes
writeable = yes
guest ok = yes

when i connect from a windows XP, using start->run-> \\192.168.1.10\data  ,  i get  " \\192.168.1.10\share  is not accessible you may not have permission.. the network path was not found "

am i missing something?

thanks in advance.

I've had a similar problem. Try different configurations first;

Ie, create a different username, say test, and set this as the guest
account. Also, my configuration has "guest only = yes" - there's some
Significance with all these parameters and the guest user and it took me
A while to get it right. Perhaps try it with different permissions on
your
Directory too.

I've done this before using the following as a guide, and it works well:

I think the problem is generally because that your computer ignores ICMP
echo packet.

you can first check /proc/sys/net/ipv4/icmp_echo_ignore_all, whether it's
set to 1 or not.

then, maybe you can check your iptables.
see if you have "DROP" on icmp packets.
