Cale, if you don't want to pay for Satellite to handle this situation, I recommend you set up mrepo and generate your own yum repos.  Your production hosts would update from your internal yum repos instead of directly from RHN.  This would allow you to rely on the yum updates being stable during your update schedule and not rely directly on RHN.
