[rhn-users] Resizing ext3 partition

you can  convert ext3 to ext2 by disabling journal (check tune2fs) and then resize it using parted. Later convert ext2 back to ext3. 

I dont know the exact steps but I read this solution few days before but I couldn't find that link now. Hope someone will fill in.
