[rhn-users] RHEL4 doesn't see SATA!

I had a similar problem (SATA drive not recognized) installing Fedora Core
4 on a Gateway E4300.  I went into the BIOS and toggled the SATA drive to
"legacy" mode (from "enhanced"), and it was recognized and everything has
worked fine.

I'm not sure what other effects this has, but perhaps this technique will
work for you.
