I successfully got rid of Apache v 2.0 and installed Apache 1.3.27-9 on an  
ES 3 server. I guess it shouldn't be any different to AS.

Maybe, in the spec file that you have, try changing the BuildPrereq line  
to something like:
BuildPrereq: db4-devel, expat-devel, findutils, mm-devel

So.. change the db3-devel to db4-devel, and see if that helps.
