[Spacewalk-list] Spacewalk Server on Opensuse

Your assumption was correct, I wanted to install a Spacewalk Server on Opensuse. I have it, now, installed on CentOS6.6. Was trying to stay with our Linux vendor of choice. Too much time consumed looking for documentation.

Thanks in advance.

Good evening. :-)

am i right if i assume that you want to install a Spacewalk Server on Opensuse?

Or do you want to install the Spacwalk Client tools?

Cause its a big difference.

If you want install a Spacewalk Server, it may be the best Choice to use CentOS.

If you want to install the Client Tools you may have a look at the Documentation, :-)

https://fedorahosted.org/spacewalk/wiki/RegisteringClients
And for registering the Clients to the Spacewalk Server have a look at this Mailing List Posting from one of the SuSE Engineers.

https://www.redhat.com/archives/spacewalk-list/2015-February/msg00057.ht

Hope that helps and take care.

Kind regards.

Do you want to register a Leap 42.1 client against a Spacewalk server or run Spacewalk server on top of Leap 42.1

You would be better served to manage your firewall rules post installation via some form of configuration management. In my case, the post section of kickstart is only for getting CFEngine setup, which then proceeds to do all the rest of the setup, including firewall rules.

++ Kickstart can be unreliable and only works once at install. Use it as
little as possible and let configuration management continuously maintain your hosts.

Has anybody else run into this issue on Spacewalk 2.4? Is there any way to revert to the previous reposync behavior?

The previous behavior (when overlapping repo synchs were run, they would queue up and execute serially) was quite nice and I'd like to get back to that if possible.

Follow up on this. I've spent more time looking at it and the change in behavior seems to be that when multiple repo synchonizations are scheduled overlapping, it'll will run one of them but the rest don't run (no mention in the log except for the API request).

So the first one runs but the rest don't. If I very carefully and painfully run then one at a time, waiting for one to complete before starting another, they run normally.

Has anybody else seen this behavior on 2.4?

Subject: Spacewalk 2.4 reposync not running after upgrade

I upgraded 2.3 -> 2.4 over the weekend and noticed that my reposyncs stopped running according to their schedules.

I changed a few schedules by one minute and hit the schedule button and that seems to have fixed those. On others, I merely hit the schedule button again with the same schedule but they didn't run.

So I guess I need to reschedule the whole lot?

Has anybody else run into this?

Is there any way to reduce the CPU usage via a configuration change (ie
only schedule on % servers during these specified times), batch run time
change, or increase the time between the scheduled tasks for each server?
Any other ideas/suggestions on how to reduce the CPU usage for this task?

- Thanks in advance

Issue:
CPU performance issues (90 - 100% usage) on external Oracle 11G
