Sr. Linux Systems Engineer – Permanent - Parsippany, NJ

Principal Responsibilities & Accountabilities

·         Design/Engineer Platform solutions (e.g.- Clusters, Blade Configs, Systems Infrastructure)

·         4th Level Production and Lab Support of worldwide Linux environments

·         Troubleshoot systems issues and coordinate resolutions in a proactive manner

·         Develop automated (scripted) installation kits for OS and Application layer products

·         Coordinate design efforts, Identify and Evaluate hardware and services from outside vendors

·         Prepare effective configuration, installation and operational documentation

Competencies

·         Administration and troubleshooting of computer and network systems technologies

·         Ability to solve difficult problems with creative solutions

·         Ability to communicate effectively and relate technical solutions to others

·         Ability to create technical diagrams that are easily understood by the intended audience

·         Ability to clearly describe and discuss technical solutions and computer systems technology

·         Ability to write thorough point-by-point documentation that is concise and clearly understood

·         Proficiency with hands-on server hardware configuration and troubleshooting

·         Proficiency with the use of command line based administrative tools

·         Experience and proficiency with scripting/automating administrative procedures

·         Ability to compose and debug programs written in several common scripting languages

·         Proficient in the use of common office productivity software (Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint)

Professional/Technical Skills

·         Proficiency in configuration and support of:

§  Red Hat Linux (v5 and v6) including the workstation version

§  Storage Area Networks and storage arrays

§  Virtualization technology (VMWare, VirtualBox, RHEV, etc.)

§  Linux-based Web and Middleware technologies (Apache, Tomcat, etc)

§  Infrastructure Services (DNS, LDAP, SMTP, SNMP, NTP, etc.)

§  Scripting in Shell, Perl, Expect, etc.

§  Enterprise Backup solutions (NetBackup, tape library systems)

§  Experience with RHN Satellite / Spacewalk Linux Systems management (yum)

§  Source code control and repositories (SVN, Perforce, git, etc.)

§  Remote Console Tools (iLO/UEFI/DRAC/SOL, IPMI, NX, SSH, SMBridge, VNC)

Qualifications & Experience

·         10+ years in systems engineering or administration in a large-scale enterprise environment

·         8+ years engineering solutions on Red Hat Linux systems or other equivalent Linux OS

·         College Degree in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent experience)

·         Experience in the Financial Services sector is preferred
