[vfio-users] NVME M.2 SSD broke my vfio setup

Not at all, I have no issues linked to the patch. The whole system is rock
stable.

Mainly to compile, you should do this:

apt source linux to download latest source

cd [newly downlaoded folder] # there should be a debian folder there
Apply patch / config

Build with:
time sudo -E fakeroot make -j10 -f debian/rules.gen binary-arch_amd64 # -j
10 for a 8 thread cpu is fine

when finished
cd ..
sudo dpkg -i linux-image-*

Thank you for that information. Do you have any issues with the ACS
override?

I once built kernel with ACS override manually, but I would like this
process to happen automatically when ubuntu releases a new kernel. Could
you point me to some debian dokumentation about this and I might be able to
adopt it for my ubuntu?

Or what is the general procedure to make this as automatic as possible?

I have same motherboard and same hardware passed. (GPU, ssd internal nic

And yes you need acs patch. The SSD is on the same group as the pcie ports.

The rebuild process on debian is quite simple. I never use ubuntu.

Hello,

I would like to know how everyone is managing nvme SSD's and vfio? I
have the trouble with an ASROCK Z97 Extreme6. I was using built-in VGA
for the linux host, and was passing through one of the NICs, a NVidia
VGA adapter (pciex16) and pcie USB3 host controller. Now I got myself a
ssd in m.2 format, and it seems its in the same iommu group as the vga
adapter and usb host controller.

Do I need ACS override patch now? And is there any ppa so I don't have
to compile the kernel by myself? (ubuntu 16.4)

It's a bit troublesome because I did not expect the SSD to break my
setup, although in hindsight it makes sense at it is a pcie device :(
But I did not find a lot of hits when googling for "vfio and nvme"...

Any hint is highly appreciated
