[augeas-devel] Quick tour example not working on Gentoo linux

Here's a paste of my attempt to follow the Quick Tour on the augeas  
website. I've had the same results with 0.1.1, 0.2.0, and a checkout  
from today.

I expected the files in the sandbox to show up in the tree, but as you  
can see, the tree is empty. Trying to write also fails, and doesn't  
create any files in the sandbox or anywhere else. What could be wrong?
