Netbook Oriented Linux Distributions Accessibility

Hi.
Ubuntu is a pretty resource hungry operating system and there are many
lightweight versions of the same available.
On the Vinux Support group members have informed me that Vinux may not
perform well on a Netbook.
Also, there are so many netbook oriented Linux distributions such as
Puppy Linux, Crunchbang, Lubuntu etc. What about their accessibility?
Please highlight accessibility of lightweight Linux distributions.
I am also disclosing some important system information that may help
you in offering recommendations:
300 gb hard rive with Intel Atom Processor n-2600 1.6ghz 1 gb DDR 3 RAM
I would appreciate any assistance.
