Are you sure there are not firewall rules blocking access?

Is a Windows client able to connect to your Samba server running on the 
fedora 9 server with \\IPADDRESS?

Are the Windows clients plugged into the same subnet as the thin 
clients, or accessing via the "Internet" interface?
